The foal must be born in the state of Louisiana.

The foal's darn must be permanently domiciled in the State of Louisiana.

After foaling in the state of Louisiana, the mare may be bred to a stallion standing anywhere as long as she returns to Louisiana no later than August 1 of the year following.

The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association must be notified in writing of your intention to ship a mare out of the state of Louisiana of the year bred.

If a mare has two foals in consecutive years both sired by a stallion standing out of the state of Louisiana, then the second foal and each continuously consecutive foal sired by a stallion standing out of the state of Louisiana shall only be eligible for half of the current breeders' award rate paid at the time the foal earns any purse on which it is eligible to receive breeders' awards, and the accreditation fee charged for said foal shall be $250.00.

If a mare is bred to a stallion standing in Louisiana every other year then all foals shall receive 100% of the breeders' award rate currently being paid.

If a mare is sold after foaling in Louisiana it will be incumbent on the breeder to verify to the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association that the sale is authentic in order to maintain the accreditation of the last live foal produced by the mare.

The current breeders' award rate being paid is twenty percent (20%) of the earned purse for horses finishing first, second or third in any race in Louisiana or any stakes race with a value of at least $25,000 outside the state of Louisiana.

Breeders' awards shall be paid on a maximum purse of $150,000.

Beginning in 2003, horses earning purse money by running first, second or third outside the state of Louisiana shall be paid a breeders' award on a prorata basis on purses earned, breeders awards shall be paid once a year from a fund established by the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association for this purpose.  These awards will be paid in late January or early February for the previous year.

Effective January 1, 2004 any mare shipping into the state of Louisiana for the purpose of foaling in Louisiana and having the foal accredited as a Louisiana bred must be domiciled in the State of Louisiana for a minimum of six months, or if said mare is shipped out of state for the purpose of breeding after foaling in Louisiana, she must be returned to the State of Louisiana by August 1 of the current year foaling to resume her domicile in the state.  If said mare is not returned to the State of Louisiana by the said date, the current year's foal shall NOT be eligible for accreditation as a Louisiana bred.

Effective January 1, 2004 all new mares entering the state must be registered with the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association as accredited mares upon entry into the state and upon each transfer of ownership thereafter.  The fee for registering a mare as an accredited mare is ten dollars ($10).  The fee for transferring a mare is ten dollars ($10).  Transfer fees shall be the responsibility of the new owner.
